This project was assigned in GDES 2345 - Typography. The assignment was to redesign the outer and inner sleeves of an album of our choice. I chose to redesign the album cover for Case Study 01 by Daniel Caesar.

The reason I wanted to redesign this cover was because this album is one of my all-time favorite albums. The songs present a very ethereal feel and I wanted to explore how I could emulate that feeling through Typography.

I knew that I wanted blue to be the primary color in this redesign because blue is a very calm and serene color which I think is a good representation of the RnB tracklist. I also knew that I wanted to include elements of movement to mimic the movement of the songs. I wanted the typography to also be almost abstract and distressed - but still bold. The songs have a light and flowy tone, but with strong messages which I thought would be well represented through bold, distressed type.

The inner sleeve features a light, cloudy background to tie in with the ethereal theme - almost heaven-like. I made sure to line up all of the text with each other to make the lyrics visually appealing and neat. I also included various elements and references to the artist and his home country of Canada, as well as his record label.
